Eli and Edythe Broad Art Museum

Art museum field trips can spark curiosity and engagement with big ideas about the world around us. Looking at art with peers encourages students to accept and seek diverse perspectives, skills that transfer to all areas of life. "In the Making: Young Minds at the MSU Broad Art Museum" does more than provide cost-free art museum experiences for Michigan K-12 students—it provides real world mentorship to MSU student future teachers.

MSU Museum

Wharton Center for Performing Arts

Wharton Center offers several programs that support schools across Michigan through the Wharton Center Institute for Arts and Creativity, supported by MSU Federal Credit Union. These programs include:

  • The Act One School Series, which provides curriculum-linked, performing arts enrichment activities for students in grades K-12. 
  • The Sutton Foster Awards, a yearlong program for high schools that helps them hone their skills in musical theatre, culminating in an awards showcase that sends two Michigan students to New York City to compete in the national "Jimmy Awards." 
  • The Disney Musicals in Schools program, designed to build sustainable theater programs in under-resourced schools. Wharton Center is the only Disney Musicals in Schools partner in the state of Michigan. 
  • Arts in the Classroom programs, which connect professional arts educators to classrooms and teachers in Mid-Michigan. through arts integration training for educators and arts enhancement workshops for students. 
  • The Teaching Artist Institute, which empowers artists to share their passion, creativity, and expertise with students of all ages.

 

 
 
 

The Opportunity of a Lifetime

 

In 2022, Wharton Center made meaningful changes to the Sutton Foster Awards program that more than doubled the number of schools served in previous years. One of the winners that year was Mark Bonney from the Detroit School of Arts.
